Later the name was changed to “The BBQ’D Tony Band,” which is based on the punch line to joke. The BBQ’D Tony Band has been around for 15 years in various configurations. Today’s BBQ’D Tony Band is the best group yet, consisting of fun people that got together for the love of playing and enjoy helping people have a great time.

Joe “Zod” Zirilli

Joe began playing guitar after his sister brought one home from college when he was 8 years old. He fell in love with the guitar and started taking lessons, and by the age of 13 he was in his first band. Joe played with several bands throughout high school in Syracuse, NY and while in college, played with “Invader,” a popular hard rock band based in Rochester, NY. After graduating with bachelor’s degree in computer science, he moved to New York City to play with the band Partyline. Partyline performed around NYC at iconic venues that promoted original music such as CBGB, Trax, The Great Gildersleeves, and the St. George Theater in Staten Island where the band opened for Iggy Pop. Joe took a long “break” to raise a family from the mid 80’s until 2009 when he began playing in bars around the Jersey Shore. Joe played with the Ace Rockers and then started his own band in 2012 called Shark Puppet. In 2015 Joe joined the BBQ’D Tony Band and has been with them ever since. Joe is an accomplished electric, acoustic, and classical guitar player and vocalist. Joe is a composer and maintains a recording studio in his home.

In college, he taught himself how to play acoustic guitar and fell in love. He has written many original songs and loves all genres of music, but his favorites are country, classic rock, and alternative rock. He frequently sits in with many local bands at the jersey shore to sing classics such as “Wagon Wheel.” The BBQ’D Tony Band is Phil’s first professional band where he can display and refine his wealth of natural talent.

Greg “Sky” Walker
Bass Guitar

Greg grew up in northern NJ listening to popular rock and roll music on AM radio. He formed a basement band with the neighborhood kids, but no one owned or played any instruments. This problem was remedied by taking piano lessons with the next-door neighbor and using a Mel Bay book to pluck out chords on his older brothers’ guitar. Greg switched to bass to add some bottom to the local band down the street, and there was no turning back. From 1975-2015 Greg was in “Slick” an oldies band inspired by the great rock and roll music of the 1950s and 60s. Vocal harmonies are prominently featured. The band was formed in 1975 to compete in a talent contest emceed by Cousin Brucie. Slick continued performing until 2015, sharing the stage along the way with many of their musical heroes: The Coasters, The Duprees, Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits, The Drifters, Danny and the Juniors, Johnny Maestro, and The Brooklyn Bridge, The Del Vikings, Frank Stallone, and others. See slickband.net. In 1976 Greg join the Spiz Kings where he wrote and recorded an album of original music in a blend of musical styles. Each member wrote and sang lead vocal on three tracks. Greg played bass, and contributed backing vocals, keys, and guitar on the album. Music is a way to share our hearts and souls. Greg loves playing music and performing, writing music and lyrics, and jamming with his family and friends on stage, or in the home studio he built with the help of his friend and fellow musician, Bob Casey.
